Hope Solo’s memoir is already making the headlines, with an interesting revelation regarding ex-national team coach Greg Ryan.
“I was stunned that he had touched me,” Hope Solo writes.
The goalkeeper, 31, reveals in her new book “Solo: A Memoir of Hope“, that Ryan pushed her during a meeting at a hotel room in 2007.
It was actually in that particular meeting that the then-manager of the USA Women’s Soccer team informed Solo that she would be benched ahead of USA’s crucial World Cup match against Brazil.
Hope Solo writes in her memoir: “We were both silent [after he told me I would be benched].
“I had nothing left to say so I stood up to leave. Greg leaned over and pushed me back down on the couch. Hard.”
With no admiration for the manager, who is now active at the University of Michigan, Solo added in her new book:
“If I had made a list of all the people I thought might coach the national team, Greg Ryan would probably have been dead last.”
Perhaps, Ryan has yet to react towards the lack of respect from the celebrity goalie; but he saw a need to deny the claim, which he regards as a lie.
In a statement obtained by CBS News, Greg said: “This allegation is completely false.
“I did not shove or push Hope as I’ve been accused in her book. I would have been terminated immediately by USA Soccer had this allegation been true.”
But Greg Ryan is not the only one to label Hope Solo as a liar.
Ukrainian-American choreographer Maksim Chmerkovskiy, 32, also denied slapping the superstar during Dancing With the Stars–hence, strengthening the idea of Solo lying in her memoir.
But the female ace–who won gold at the just-ended London 2012 Olympics with USA–was quick to defend herself.
USA Today quoted her saying: “You have to understand when you write a book, you aren’t free to throw words that are not true.
“People fact check, attorneys are involved. I assumed they would deny it but everyone knows I speak the truth.”
So now, who is telling the truth? It seems the keeper is… Well, in any case, we can simply expect her memoir to grab more attention in the coming days.
