Mario Balotelli says that jealousy caused haters to disapprove the celebration of his second goal against Germany in the Euro 2012 semis.
Balotelli’s goal on 36 minutes gave Italy a final 2-0 win over Joachim Lowe’s Germany, and the Manchester City striker went for a unique historic celebration.
Filled with pride and boldness, Balotelli went shirtless, as he stood still in a position emphasizing his muscles and worked-out body.
While his teammate ran straight towards him to celebrate the goal along with him, the referee was also quick to book him.
But Balotelli ignored his sanction and had no regrets, dedicating both his goals to his Italian adoptive mother Silvia.
Predictably though, many spectators disapproved Balotelli’s goal celebration, tagging it as yet another sign of arrogance and failure.
Yet, Super Mario–who is said to have broken up with ex-girlfriend Raffaella Fico–was blunt and refused to see his shirtless celebration as a bad act.
“If anyone is angry for my celebration, it’s because they saw my physique and they’re jealous,” Balotelli said.
